Jedi Knights First Game

The Jedi Knights are a U8 Boys Soccer team. The team members are:
  • Adrian #3
  • Antonio #4
  • Alex #5
  • Reed #6
  • Tyler #7
  • Jack #8
  • Sami #9
  • Sean #10
  • Daniel #11
Our goals this year are:
  1. To have fun.
  2. To learn some soccer skills.
  3. To learn about teamwork.
  4. Did I say to have fun?!
The boys have been working hard in practice and the results showed in their first game yesterday, Sat. August 27. They played the Green Goblins and controlled the ball nearly the entire game. After getting way ahead on goals, the team held back and worked on their passing. It was great to see how much they have already learned about playing together.

Adrian (our captain for the day), Alex, Antonio and Daniel all had turns in the goal, but saw no action. Let's hope it's always that easy!

Alex, Tyler and Sami were our goal-scorers: Alex with 3, Tyler and Sami with 1 each. The three of them, as well as Daniel and Adrian, were really hustling up front and they kept the pressure on the Green Goblins.

Reed, Jack and Antonio were solid defenders for most the game, and rarely let a ball past the mid-line. We missed Sean, who wasn't feeling well, but it was great to have him there supporting his teammates from the sidelines. Feel better, Sean!

It was interesting to see how each boy instinctively gravitated toward a position where he was most comfortable--fortunately we seem to have a good mix of natural attackers and defenders. And we'll continue to mix them up, so each boy gets plenty of chances to try out different positions throughout the season.

I was very proud of the Jedi Knights in their first game. They played hard, but not rough. They are starting to get the idea of working as a team--keeping their heads up to look for teammates, talking to each other, and putting together a few passes to move the ball around.

And, it looked to me like they were having fun! That's what matters most.

Thanks to Tabatha for coordinating the roster, game and snack schedule; to Valerie for being our team sponsor; to Tom and Tim for being the team refs; to Rafael for the AWESOME banner; and to Sylvia for bringing the first game treats...

Next practice: Thursday, Sept. 1 at 6pm
Next game: Saturday, Sept. 10, 11am, Field B (also team picture day, details to come!)

May the force be with you(!),
Cindy
